OhioHealth neurologist Dr. Jacqueline Nicholas discusses the affect MS has on common body functions as Blader, Bowel and Sexual Dysfunction. There are two main types of bladder problems in MS – storage and emptying. Doctors don’t know why some people get one and not the other, or why some people get a bit of both.
MS nerve damage can affect female sexual function. Around 50 to 80 per cent of women with MS will experience some degree of sexual dysfunction at some stage during the course of their MS. If there is MS related nerve damage in the parts of the brain and spinal cord that are involved, men may have problems with erections and ejaculation. Depending on nerve damage, drug treatments and other solutions can help with these problems.
